Biotechnology

Although biotechnology may seem like a new field, it has been widely used by people in their economic activities for centuries. Namely, various biological processes have been used to obtain bread, beverages, cheese, etc. Biotechnology is a technological application in which living systems – organisms, tissues, cells – are used to produce useful, commercially significant products. It is an interdisciplinary field in which engineering and knowledge in information technology meet biochemistry or biophysics, leading to new innovations.

In the lesson, students will be able to work in the Laboratory of Environmental Sciences of the Nature House and learn about the principles of biotechnology by watching the installation “Aquaponic system”, which is an independent biological system, an innovative method in which fish and gardening complement each other. During the lesson, students will be able to acquire skills in the production of new equipment, thus experiencing the interaction between industries and how theoretical knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics, technology is applied in practice, creating an innovative product.
