From August 16 to 19, the Science and Education Innovation Center of Liepaja Municipal Education Department, Pēteris Lapiņš, an expert in natural sciences and science theater, and Sniedze Više, an environmental expert, went on a business trip to Norway to carry out the “Arendalsuka” talk festival discussion “100 reasons why science is fun! ” and gain experience at the local science museum “Vitensenteret Sørlandet”.
One of the days of the visit was dedicated to getting to know the exhibition of the science museum and clarifying organizational and substantive questions about the principles of operation, while on the final day of the business trip, P. Lapiņš and S. Više, together with colleagues from the Daugavpils Innovation Center, organized a discussion “100 reasons why science is fun !”. During the discussion, natural science experiments were demonstrated and a small insight into the idea of the science theater performance “Pirate Tales” was also implemented, as well as an online game about how natural events have influenced science.
Such a conversation festival has been organized for the tenth time and it gathers not only representatives of the scientific field, but also politicians, representatives of various industries and non-governmental organizations. This was also a great opportunity to encourage young people to think about how suitable the profession of a scientist is for them, as well as what qualities and knowledge need to be cultivated in this field.
The participation event was financially supported by the State Education Development Agency (EEA and Norway Grants Latvia).
